San Diego Fire-Rescue (SDFD) crews are working to mop up the remnants of a fire that tore through the roof of a Bay Park home early Wednesday.
Heavy flames could be seen spewing from the roof of the home, which was being remodeled, on Dakota Drive off Clairemont Drive at about 2:40 a.m. when firefighters were called to help.
Firefighters had flames under control in about 20 minutes and everyone who lived inside was safely evacuated. No injuries were reported.
It was not clear what caused the fire to spark. Investigators were called to the scene to determine a cause.
It was estimated that the fire caused about $500,000 in damage to the structure of the home and $150,000 to the contents of the home.
The American Red Cross was called to assist but was not needed, SDFD spokesperson Monica Munoz said.
