Amber Dubois’ family is taking the fight to find their daughter nationwide.
The North County teenager disappeared six months ago while walking to Escondido High School on February 13. So far police have received and investigated 11,000 tips, to no avail.
Today, her family is in New York planning a media blitz and cross-country vigil and recently hired a new private investigator, according to the North County Times. Los Angeles based Lawrence Olmstead will replace Bill Garcia, who worked with the family early on in the search.
Specialized search dogs are also being flown in from Maine later this month. The canines from the search and recovery company can detect a person's scent months after the person disappeared.
The cross county vigil starts at 8 p.m. at locations in New York City; Anaheim Hills at Hillsborough Private School and in Escondido at the high school on North Broadway.
Amber's story will also be featured at 4 p.m. Thursday on "Issues" on Headline News with Jane Velez-Mitchell and America's Most Wanted at 9 p.m. on Saturday.
