Woman Sexually Assaulted After Parking Car

San Diego Police are searching for the man who used a sharp object to threaten a woman and sexually assault her in Mira Mesa.

On Monday at about 10:30 p.m., the woman was getting out her parked car in the 10600 block of Penara Street when a suspect came up behind her with a sharp object.

Police say he pulled her toward the back of her vehicle and sexually assaulted her.

The man was last seen heading south from the area, and he is described as a light-skinned, bald man in his 40s. At the time of the assault, he was wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

Some residents told NBC 7 that news of the attack has them changing their habits and paying closer attention to their surroundings.

Albert Littlejohn has lived in the area for almost 15 years and feels safe walking around the neighborhood.

He wants to be there when his daughter and wife arrives to his house after dark.

"I let her know that as of last night to call ahead and let someone know when she's pulling in the driveway so we can peek out the door, peek out the window and make sure that everything's ok," Littlejohn said.

Another resident has distributed a leaflet to let her neighbors know about the potential danger.
