Turning the Tables

Mexican drivers are heading north to the San Diego area to take advantage of cheaper gas prices.

It's a dramatic shift from the summer, when gas prices in San Diego peaked at $4.69 a gallon, driving residents to go south of the border to fill up at Tijuana gas stations for nearly half the price.

The Auto Club of Southern California says the average price for a gallon of regular gas in San Diego County was $2.05 on Wednesday. Some stations charged as little as $1.68 a gallon.

South of the border, a gallon of unleaded gas cost $2.35.

Although the difference in price is much smaller, Tijuana gasoline stations reported a drop of 25 percent in fuel sales in the past two weeks.
