No Sign of Missing Woman 6 Weeks Later

Sally Estabrook, 75, walked away from a Julian campsite Oct. 4

There is still no trace of 75-year-old Sally Estabrook six weeks after her disappearance.

That’s why volunteers held a candlelight vigil Saturday in hopes of reigniting the case and finding the missing grandmother. The vigil took place at 5 p.m. at Pioneer Park in Julian.

“Two or three times during the night, I'll wake up and I'll just pray,” her husband Bob Estabrook said.

Estabrook went missing from the Pinezanita RV Park on Highway 79 Oct. 4. Since then, search teams from San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange Counties have combed the rugged area for Estabrook.

Family members have pleaded for the public's help to find her, including her son-in-law, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine. Estabrook suffers from Alzheimer's disease and is not very communicative, but loved ones say she may respond to Sally, Nana or Mom.

Her husband is hopeful she's still alive because crews didn't find any clues during the extensive search.

“They've never found a trace, so I believe someone tried to help her,” Bob Estabrook said.

Someone reported seeing Estabrook Oct. 13 in Scripps Ranch, but nothing came of the tip.

Estabrook is described as 5-foot-4 and 145 pounds with shoulder-length blond hair.

Team Amber Rescue hosted Saturday’s vigil. The group was founded by Carrie McGonigle, who has dedicated her life to helping families find missing loved ones after her own daughter, Amber Dubois, was murdered.

“Most people haven't walked through their shoes, thank God. Just to have someone to talk to I think gives them a lot of comforts,” McGonigle said.
