Man Dragged by Vehicle After Alleged Robbery

Suspects crashed into ravine after police pursuit

A La Mesa man was dragged by a car after two men allegedly robbed him of his laptop Monday afternoon.

Police responded to reports of a man injured in the area of La Mesa Blvd. and Acadia Ave. Monday at about 2:30 p.m., according to a report from the La Mesa Police Department.

The victim told police two men stole his laptop and fled in a small red car. He attempted to grab onto the car was was dragged about 50 feet.

The victim was treated on the scene and transported to the hospital.

A witness snapped a picture of the suspects' license plate. Police were able to track down the owners of the car to a home on Ivanho St. in Spring Valley.

When authorities arrived, the suspects could be seen leaving the garage and driving away. Police chased the suspects onto the westbound 94.

When police attempted to pull the two men over, they both got out and fled on foot, crashing the car into a nearby ravine.

The driver was tased by police and the passenger was located shortly after, hiding in the area of Kenwood Dr. and Bancroft St.

A witness matched the two chase suspects to the earlier robbery. They were identified as 18-year-olds Nathaniel Gaines and Dontrez McCraney.

McCraney was also wanted for a previous assault with a deadly weapon charge.
