Hit and Run Driver Had Suspended License: Cops

A man who was arrested Saturday night for a hit-and-run crash in Pacific Beach that left a woman fighting for her life, had a suspended license, San Diego police detectives said.

The 24 year-old woman was hit just before 8 p.m. Saturday by a pick-up truck while walking across Mission Blvd, at the intersection of Reed and Mission.

According to police, the light was green as the truck turned north onto Mission Blvd. Detectives said the victim was hit as the truck was making that left turn.  After the accident, officials said the driver of the truck backed his vehicle out of the intersection and left the scene.

Witnesses gave detailed descriptions of the suspected driver and also described an occupant of the vehicle emptying alcohol containers outside the truck immediately after the accident, police said.

The witness descriptions led police to the suspected driver and they arrested Alan Mabrey, 45 around 9 p.m.  Detectives believe Mabrey was under the influence of alcohol.  The passenger was also taken into custody.

The victim was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla in critical condition.

Mabrey is facing several charges including felony DUI, misdemeanor hit and run and driving with a suspended license.

Those charges that could become even more serious if the victim doesn't survive, detectives said.
