When the announcement came at 3:33 p.m. Sunday, more than 200 players, coaches and supporters nearly blew the top off the Guadalupe Center on the campus of Cathedral Catholic High.
"This is the most amazing experience of my life," Dons star running back Tyler Gaffney told the North County Times after learning that his unbeaten team would represent the South and the CIF San Diego Section in the Division II state bowl game Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson against North selection Stockton St. Mary's.
"I thought winning our section title was amazing. But this is unbelievable."
Cathedral Catholic (13-0) and Oceanside (12-0-1) were among eight teams eligible to represent the South.
