Latin-Alt Fills September's Dance Card

Latin alternative music is all over this month's calendar, including shows by Kid Cudi and Julieta Venegas.

This month's Latin-alternative music calendar is B-A-N-A-N-A-S! ¡Que Viva! Cine Latino Film Series kicks off its first day with Brazilian Latin funk guitarist Israel Maldonado, followed by a free outdoor screening of Gael Garcia Bernal's film No. The screenings are held every Wednesday and will feature an assortment of live local Latino musical groups, including indie-pop singer Lilian Rey, with Anthony Mendez. Café Tacvba  and Julieta Venegas, both Grammy-winning acts from Mexico, will finally grace San Diego with their presence in September. Like Venegas, Dancing Strangers are from Tijuana. The cool electronic synth duo make their headlining debut at the Casbah, which is right on time after their recent spotlight interview on SoundDiego TV. And we cannot forget Kid Cudi, probably our biggest mainstream Afro-Latino rapper around, headlining Valley View Casino this week.
