Here Are Los Momentos

Julieta Venegas, Tijuana's queen of Latin-Alt music, is on a world tour promoting her sixth studio album

It would be rude to talk about Tijuana's music scene without mentioning the latest from the ever exquisite Julieta Venegas. Los Momentos is her sixth studio album and has already garnered critical acclaim, hitting the Top 3 -- it even hit No. 1 in Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela. On June 1, the Los Momentos world tour made its debut in Brazil and will make a final stop in Las Vegas on Sept. 29. The city of Tijuana will have to head north to San Diego to see Venegas on Sept. 19 at the House of Blues.

With Los Momentos, Venegas became the first Latina to livestream an album on iTunes prior to its release. The album makes a return to darker, deeper themes as prophesized in the “Tuve Par Dar” music video, which gallantly features the cameo awesomeness of such Mexican music makers as Juan Manuel Torreblanca and Natalia Lafourcade. The album also features an exciting collabo with Cafe Tacvba's Rubén Albarrán and Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux on “Vuelve," a key track that embodies what this album is all about: a thoughtful look at self and making sense of the all the world's contradictions. The Los Momentos DVD features an unplugged version of the song with buzz-worthy Chilean vocalists Javiera Mena and Gepe (probably on a cool referral from Ms. Tijoux herself).

Tijuana music has always had an amazing resilience unaffected from the temptations of formulas or becoming too American or too Mexican although wedged between two cultures -- this is the definition of Venegas. She is the model musician -- La Reyna of transborder music. Los Momentos is one of those tours not be missed because the singer/songwriter is hitting a musical high with this album. Venegas is a musical treasure: elegant, talented and sincere. The cherry on top is her humanitarian side: Venegas has participated in a number of UNICEF initiatives in Mexico and made historical leaps for Latina musicians. It's no wonder why she's Mexico's UNICEF goodwill ambassador. Fans can get a preview of the Los Momentos unplugged side of  Venegas on her VEVO channel.
