    FBI agents and Connecticut State Police have surrounded a semitrailer that may be carrying explosives in Branford, CT.

    A woman in her 30's was fatally shot in South Los Angeles as she got out of her car, while her three-year-old daughter remained inside her vehicle, a Los Angeles police lieutenant said Sunday.

    The woman, identified as 25-year-old Kashmier Shari James, was getting out of her car at the intersection of 85th Street and Western Avenue at 10:30 p.m., Christmas night, said police LAPD watch commander at 77th Street Division Lt. Peter Casey. Authorities said James had been visiting a male acquaintance.

    Two men in a dark blue vehicle drove up and fired nine shots at her, striking her in the head, said Casey. The subjects then fled southbound on Western Avenue.

    A grieving family and friends of a young woman who was killed on christmas day are asking for the public's help. They are hoping someone can lead police to the gunman who shot the young mother as her three year old daughter watched. NBC4?s John Cadiz Klemack has the latest on the investigation from South L.A.

    The woman collapsed outside the car, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The little girl who was still sitting in the back seat was not hurt.

    James' 3-year-old daughter was turned over to her father at the 77th Street station.

    Casey said the motive for the shooting was not known and the investigation was underway.

    A candlelight vigil was held at the crime scene Monday.
