Poway Teen in Stable Condition after Shooting

PHS subdued after another tragedy, school official says

The teen shot on Friday attends Poway High School.

A Poway High School student shot Friday evening is now in stable condition, according to a school official.

Police said the boy and his friends were possibly using hallucinogenic drugs when the shooting occurred on the 14800 block of Midland Rd.

The identity of the boy has not been released, but PHS Peer Counseling CoordinatorTraci Barker-Ball said many students heard about the event over the weekend and know the victim.

Barker-Ball said the campus has been subdued since students returned to school Monday.

“Our kids are so resilient though,” Barker-Ball said. “We’ve been through so much.”

Four Poway High School students have died in the past four years, she said, so students are just relieved that the boy has pulled through and is alive.
