Shirtless Man Claiming to Have Gun in Custody for Attempted Armed Bank Robbery in Oceanside

A man who claimed to have a gun as he allegedly held up Wells Fargo bank employees in Oceanside was taken into custody after a SWAT standoff, Oceanside Police said.

It is unclear when the incident began, though police said the suspect, later identified as Cole Hoffman, said he was armed and wanted money. Police said Hoffman allegedly tossed tables and chairs around inside the building during the standoff.

At approximately 1 p.m., he was taken into custody. Hoffman walked out of the bank shirtless, with his hands up.

All employees inside the bank were safe and uninjured.

As the standoff went on, some Wells Fargo employees came running out of the bank, located on the 3400 block of Marron Road. Other employees were behind plexy glass, officials said.

"Please be mindful of safety precautions," Oceanside Police Lt. Leonard Cosby said in a media release.

Nearby businesses were put on lockdown during the standoff.

No further information was immediately available.
