Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Train in Encinitas

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a northbound Amtrak train Saturday morning in Encinitas, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The fatal collision happened just before 7 a.m. on the train tracks in the 1200 block of North Coast Highway 101.

Deputies say Amtrak train #763 struck a man on the tracks, and the man died at the scene.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death of the man, as well as identification. The incident is under investigation.

This is the second incident involving an Amtrak train in San Diego in just two days.

On Thursday afternoon three people were hospitalized after a northbound Amtrak commuter train struck a delivery truck along tracks in Sorrento Valley.
