Eduardo Salgado (18, top) and Oscar Jimenes (19, bottom) and a juvenile were arrested on assault charges.
Two adults and a juvenile had almost gotten away with free booze and maybe a misdemeanor theft charge. Now, they face a felony for assault with a deadly weapon.
Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station deputies say three suspects -- 19-year-old Oscar Jimenez, 18-year-old Eduardo Salgado and an unnamed juvenile -- were picked up in Newhall after the alleged drunken trio attempted to get surveillance video of their beer theft.
It started Sunday night at Dooley's Liquor Store & Market on 14th and Walnut in Newhall. Detectives say Jimenez, Salgado and a third boy stole some beer. About an hour and a half later, just after 11 p.m., detectives say they returned, drunk, and told the clerk to hand over the surveillance video.
"A scuffle ensued," said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Station. "One of the suspects brandished a knife and cut the store clerk on the arm."
That clerk had to have stitches. The suspects took off, but it wasn't long before they were in custody.
"Responding deputies set up a containment and the three suspects were quickly apprehended," according to Lt. Bryski.
They've been booked for felony assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor theft and intimidating a witness.
But perhaps worst of all for the trio who didn't want to be seen, their booking photos are now public record. They make their first court appearance Tuesday at the San Fernando Courthouse.
