The self-described "geeks" of Comic-Con might dress up as fictional characters, but their money is real.

In a move that could increase the ranks of Space Ghosts and Incredible Hulks in Anaheim, the city is looking to attract the Comic-Con Convention. The city has submitted a proposal to lure the 2013 event from San Diego to the Anaheim Convention Center.

"We're attracted to it because of its sheer magnitude," Charles Ahlers, president of the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, told the OC Register. "It's one of those things where it's hard to unseat an annual convention from any area, and Comic-Con has a long history in San Diego. But we think we have a lot to offer."

He told the Register the convention might have a $40 million to $50 million impact on the city.

Anaheim's convention center offers 815,000 square-feet of space. That's more space than San Diego's facility.

Ahlers told the Register that Anaheim's other superpowers include affordable hotel rooms and more hotels near the convention center -- because even Superman needs a nap.

It's municipal battle on the level of Superman v. Batman.

The corporation that operates the San Diego Convention Center submitted its own proposal. Three San Diego hotels are offering free meeting space, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

A decision from the Comic-Con board is expected in July. This year's convention is July 22-25.
