Fire Damages Apartments in Cardiff-by-the-Sea

Fire broke out in an apartment near Norfolk Drive and Edinburg around 2:40 a.m.

A woman credits her dog for waking her and alerting her to a fire in Cardiff-by-the-Sea early Monday.

Fire broke out in an apartment on the corner of Norfolk Drive and Edinburg around 2:40 a.m.

Amy Richardson lives in a detached structure nearby. When her dog woke her, Richardson realized her neighbor's apartment was up in flames.

She said she saw flames through her skylight, and then ran outside where she captured an image of the blaze with her cell phone.

Firefighters worked for several hours to knock down the flames in the three-unit structure.

One home was severely damaged. The person living in that unit wasn’t home at the time of the fire.

Two other units suffered smoke damage according to fire crews.

Of the seven people living in the building, no one was home at the time and no one was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
