American Ticket Counters Go Cashless at Airport

Next week American Airlines will go cashless at San Diego International Airport ticket counters.

“Handling cash in the airport environment is time consuming,” said SAN General Manager Faith Ikeda. “This new program will be beneficial for both employees and customers, as the process for taking cards instead of cash is faster and more efficient.”

Customers who prefer or only have cash will have access to new, standalone kiosks in the check-in area where they can exchange cash for debit cards to use at the counter.

“Focusing less on the process for dealing with cash transactions enables us to spend more time assisting our customers during check in,” IAH General Manager Rob Davis said.

If the pilot program is successful the company plans to expand the cashless program to other ticket counters across the country.

American has been cashless on all mainline flights since 2010 and in all Admirals Club locations since last year.

The company is also trying the cashless program in Houston.
