    NEWSLETTERS

The last time I saw Morrissey, he was performing on the main stage at Coachella. I was up front at an adjacent stage, watching Leonard Cohen perform, and we could hear Morrissey complaining in the distance about the sound bleeding over. Cohen had gone past his set time, and Morrissey had a lot to say about it. To me, that is the epitome of Morrissey-ness. Well loved by devoted fans, many people in my generation can say that, whether as Morrissey or with the Smiths, the music changed their lives. So we put up with the prima-donna behavior, we've surrended the idea of maybe being the person that can get close to the tortured soul, and every once in a while, we light a candle or two, put on old records from Morrissey and the Smiths, and thank the high heavens we've grown into well-adjusted adults, appreciating that he was there for us when we weren't.
