Amazon reported that "Steve Jobs," a biography about the Apple co-founder and visionary by Walter Isaacson, is its best-selling book of the year.

The biography was, at first, set for 2012, but was fast-tracked after the death of Jobs in early October. Sony almost immediately bought the rights to the book for a biopic which may or may not star George Clooney or Noah Wyle as Jobs.

The total number of units sold is unknown, but the book sold 379,000 copies in the first week it was released Oct. 24, according to Apple Insider. Since then, bits and pieces of the biography have been leaked to the press hungry for an account of a fairly private man.

Jobs took the search to find a biographer seriously, personally choosing Isaacson, a former CNN chairman and editor of Time magazine. Jobs had previously been leery of reporters. In 1984, Jobs chose a Time reporter to write about the creation of the Mac, but then abruptly cut off contact when he reported on an aspect of his personal life, Deadline Hollywood reported.

Isaacson's 448-page tome is based on more than 40 interviews with the Apple co-founder and more than 100 conversations with friends, family members, colleagues and competitors. Jobs gave his full cooperation towards the book but had not read it as of mid-August.
