The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood warning for eastern San Diego County until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The NWS said at around 5:05 p.m. that radars indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain in the area.
Areas that will likely experience flooding, according to the NWS, include State Route 78 between Borrego Springs Road and Ocotillo Wells, SR-78 between SR-52 and Borrego Springs Road, Borrego Springs, Interstate 8 between Boulevard and Imperial County Line, I-8 between Pine Valley and Boulevard, Highway S22 between Borrego Springs and Imperial County Line, Highway S2 between Agua Caliente and Canebrake, Ocotillo Wells Vehicular Recreation Area, Agua Caliente, Campo Indian Reservation, Live Oak Springs, Manzanita Indian Reservation and La Posta Indian Reservation.
A flash flood warning means that flooding is either occurring or imminent, the NWS said.
The NWS also said most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles and drivers approaching flooded roads should turn around.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southeastern San Diego County Wednesday and has since expired.
Severe thunderstorms were located near Interstate 8 between Boulevard and the Imperial County line. It was slowly moving northwest.

An NBC 7 news crew in Julian just before 2 p.m. heard thunder rumbling and saw dark clouds in the sky.
Residents could see a quarter to a half inch of rain some thunderstorm and lightning activity, according to NBC 7’s Ashley Matthews.
Unusually high humidity continues for another day after five days of similar conditions.
“I’m sorry, It’s going to be a little muggy out there and sticky,” Matthews said.
There is a chance for pop-up showers again on Thursday.
