Earlier this morning, my 16-month-old daughter woke up with a slight fever. I was concerned it was a case Bieber Fever, but turns out it was reaction to a new tooth poking through. Phew. Needless to say, I will not be attending the insanely popular http://www.channel933.com/pages/summerkickoff/summerkickoffconcert2010.html">Channel 933 Summer Kickoff with floppy-coifed teen sensation Justin Bieber (at least this year). Instead, I will be heading to the North Park Theater for Sea Wolf (indie folk) and The Album Leaf (ambient/chill).
The Album Leaf, celebrating their 10th anniversary, was founded by San Diego's Jimmy LaValle (guitarist of post-rock/instrumental band Tristeza). Started as a home-recording project for LaValle, the Album Leaf has evolved into an international recording /touring band with five studio recordings under their ethereal belt (currently on Seattle's Sub Pop records). The new album, A Chorus of Storytellers, was recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Wash., and was mixed by LaValle and engineer Birgir Jón "Biggi" Birgisson at Sigur Ros' Sundlaugin Studio, in Iceland.
A Chorus of Storytellers, a beautiful, complex 11-song composition, showcases LaValle's talent as a prolific recording artist. Dreamy and cinematic in scope, the album utilizes a full live band for the first time. In support of their its endeavor, the band has toured extensively through Canada, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and North America. The Album Leaf will wrap up their North American jaunt on Friday night at the Birch North Park Theatre.
In addition to Jimmy LaValle, The Album Leaf band :

- Matthew Resovich: violin, keys, vocals
