If you've been to Harrah's, you know they’ve got all things water completely covered -- with a swim-up bar, a 400-foot lazy river, 21 cabanas, the main pool and eight hot tubs on site. So what better place to throw our Summer Splash shows, right?
Those in the know saw our kickoff show on May 21 with alt-rock mainstays the Boxer Rebellion and then snagged tickets to our June 18 show with infectious indie-rock darlings the Mowgli's -- but now that we're neck deep in summer, it's time to break out the surf-pop tunes!
Beloved 91x Loudspeaker radio host and SoundDiego blogger Tim Pyles -- who is emceeing the show -- gushed about the Seattle-based quartet La Luz, of which San Diego just can't get enough.
"La Luz: I love them! They bring the surf-rock sound with a doo-wop flair, since all four women sing," Pyles said. "They've got a sound steeped in Link Wray, the Ventures and Dick Dale -- but with vocals. Surf's up!"
And who did we tap to open the show? None other than local masters of "weird," Botanica Chango!

While we're not practitioners of that ancient brand of voodoo, it's true that we've fallen under the band's mighty spell. We asked them to headline our SoundDiego LIVE party at the Casbah back in January and it was simply one for the ages -- with wild costumes, anything-goes onstage debauchery and just the right amount of strangeness that makes Botanica Chango one of a kind.
