SDSU Men's Basketball Team Board Bus to NCAA Tournament

The SDSU men's basketball team is heads to Ohio

The San Diego State University men’s basketball team embarked on an exciting bus ride on Wednesday.

The Aztecs packed up and headed for Columbus, Ohio, where they’re scheduled to compete in the 2012 NCAA basketball tournament. They will play against North Carolina State this Friday at 9:40 a.m. PT.

The team departed at noon from Viejas Arena on their bus.

Several members of the team’s avid student fan group, known collectively as “The Show,” were there to see the players off and wish them luck. They’ll be supporting the Aztecs from afar as they vie for the title at the NCAA tournament.

On Sunday, the Aztecs were the 67th team – out of 68 total teams – called to compete in the March Madness tournament. They literally played the waiting game to find out if they’d be going to the big dance.

Coach Steve Fisher said he has no gripes with their seeding or region of play.

"Doesn’t matter who you play what seed you are we are privileged to be 6th seed we'd been satisfied to be playing,” the coach said.

“We're thrilled to be in tournament."

North Carolina State has serious hoops history and hails from the powerful ACC, but recently San Diego State has had the better basketball resume. Still, the Aztecs are considered the underdogs in Friday’s upcoming showdown.

This is the Aztecs 3rd straight NCAA tournament appearance and it’s something this program doesn't take lightly.

"It’s one of those things… Holy Grail of basketball,” said forward Tim Shelton. “It’s an honor you always want to be a part of it.”
