Politicking With Sam Wyche and Peter Boulware On Election Day

Today is election day and while many people are focusing on Obama vs McCain, there are hundreds of candidates all over this nation gearing up to battle for state, county and city offices.

One of them is former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Peter Boulware. Boulware is a Republican candidate for District 9 of the Florida House of Representatives. He spent nine seasons in the NFL and went to four Pro-Bowls. He was on the Ravens 2000 Super Bowl championship team and was inducted into the team's Ring Of Honor.

He wants to use that success to make a difference in Florida.

"From what I've seen in the Legislature, in order to be effective, you have to work as a team," Boulware said. "Take a football locker room. (Florida State coach) Bobby Bowden was able to take 100 athletes from all around the country - rich, poor, black or white - and bring us together. It's the same thing in the Legislature. You come together for the common good."

Up in South Carolina, former Bengals and Buccaneers head coach Sam Wyche is running for a seat on the Pickens, SC County Counsil.

Wyche, a Republican, wants to bring jobs back to the rural county nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. He says he would "like to use my contacts to bring business" back to the area.

"Every success on a national scale can start locally," he said. "If we improve schools here, we show that we have well-educated students and teachers, a successful labor force. The reason I've loved coaching is that I'm a teacher at heart."

Both are counting on their name recognition to compensate for their lack of political experience. Right now, some see that as a good thing.
