Tyson Ross flirted with a no-hitter for half the night before the Dodgers pulled ahead for what eventually turned into a 3-2 victory for the visitors.
In what could be his last start at Petco Park as a San Diego Padre, Ross took a no-no into the sixth inning.
After getting pitcher Ross Stripling to groundout, Joc Pederson broke up the no-hit bid with a double in the gap.
The Padres remain the only team in the majors without a no-hitter.
Los Angeles broke through with three runs in the top of the seventh.
Andrew Toles supplied a bloop single to knock in Chris Taylor for the game’s first run.
Craig Stammen relieved Ross but then promptly hit two batters before allowing back-to-back RBI singles by Matt Kemp and Pederson. That pushed the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Dodgers.

Will Myers raised his batting average to .306 after cranking out three more hits.
Myers finished with a single and two doubles, including a two-run double in the seventh inning that pulled the Padres within 3-2.
Franmil Reyes worked a walk in the bottom of the ninth with two outs but then Dodgers closer Kenley Janssen shut the door.
Christian Villanueva flied out to right field to end the game.
Los Angeles took three of four games to win the series.
Ross only allowed two runs on three hits in 6.1 innings of work.
After the All-Star break, Ross would make his next start on the road with the July 31st trade deadline quickly approaching.
There’s a chance the Friars could decide to move Ross in the next two weeks if a contender is willing to send back a prospect or two.
The Cubs come to town this weekend with Clayton Richard scheduled to take the mound at 7:10 p.m. on Friday the 13th.
