Jockey Chantal Sutherland Takes Spill at Del Mar Track

Sutherland fell off her horse during the seventh race on Opening Day

Jockey Chantal Sutherland, who has become the face of the Del Mar Races, took a spill on the track during Opening Day Wednesday.

During the seventh race, the 113-pound jockey, who’s also a model and actress, had some trouble with her horse, Sir Hamilton, right out of the gate.

Sir Hamilton tripped and when he went sideways, Sutherland hopped off in an attempt to handle a difficult situation in a professional and decisive manner.

The spill caused Sutherland to hit the ground hard but in the end, she was fine. She even drew praise from racing announcers for handling the situation with grace.
