Chargers Fever For Playoff Showdown

Chargers eliminated the Colts last season

It's becoming a rivalry, almost like the Chargers and Colts play in the same division.  After eliminating the Colts last season in the playoffs, the Chargers have the same goal Saturday night at Qualcomm Stadium.

"We know them, and they know us," said quarterback Philip Rivers.  "This should be a good one."

This will be the Colts second trip to San Diego this season.  They defeated the Chargers 23-20, as part of their current nine game winning streak. Peyton Manning played well that night, but will face a different defense this time.

"We're playing a lot better now," linebacker Stephen Cooper said. "We've got to get pressure on him, or he'll pick us apart."

Another key for the Chargers in this Wild Card Playoff game, will be the play of the Chargers offensive line.  They've played incredible football during the four game winning streak that put the Chargers in the playoffs again.   Tackles Marcus McNeill, and Jeromey Clary will be tested by Indianapolis defensive ends Dwight Freeney, and Robert Mathis. They have combined for 22 sacks this season.

"Their speed, and quickness makes it a tough match-up, but we'll be ready," McNeill said.

Another question for the Chargers, will running back LaDainian Tomlinson or tight end Antonio Gates be ready?  They both suffered injuries last Sunday against the Broncos.   Tomlinson's groin injury shouldn't be a problem, but Gates sprained ankle is still tender.

"I'm optimistic about their chances of playing," Head Coach Norv Turner said.

The Chargers are the  first team with an 8-8 record to win a division since 1985.  The AFC West champs are playing at home, and with a lot of confidence.
