Rick Santorum Ends Presidential Campaign

"This presidential race is over for me," he said at a Tuesday news conference

Rick Santorum is suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, the former Pennsylvania senator said Tuesday at a press conference in Gettysburg, Pa. "This presidential race is over for me," he said.

Santorum’s campaign had canceled a pair of morning events after his disabled 3-year-old daughter's release from a Virginia hospital late Monday.

Rumors that Santorum might be dropping out of the race swirled after the press conference was scheduled in place of those events. Pennsylvania holds its primary on April 24, and earlier Santorum had called his home state a must-win.

A Mitt Romney campaign source told NBC News that the now-presumptive GOP nominee received a call from Santorum earlier today.
