Egyptians Vote on Constitutional Amendments

Signaling a new era in their country, Egyptians formed long lines outside polling centers on Saturday to vote on constitutional amendments regarding leadership and rule of law. Following President Hosni Mubarak's resignation of Feb. 11, the vote will determine whether Egypt will hold parliamentary and presidential elections soon, or whether the military's power should be temporarily extended. Critics like likely presidential candidate Mohamed ElBaradei say a "no" vote on amendments would give newly formed political parties more time to prepare for elections. According to Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram, ElBaradei was attacked as he tried to vote. Early results are expected to be announced on Sunday.
