Family Struck in Hillcrest Crosswalk

Accident happened on 4th and University

A mother and child were hospitalized after being struck by a car in Hillcrest Sunday.

The car collided with a family standing in the crosswalk at the intersection of University and 4th Street - an intersection one resident said is dangerous for pedestrians.

A couple and their 3-year old daughter were crossing the intersection around 11 a.m. when the driver of a car hit the mother and toddler as he was turning through the intersection.

The woman and child were transported to an area hospital and one of them had life-threatening injuries officials said Sunday.

A witness who called 911 and helped the crash victims said the busy intersection is prone to such accidents.

“The intersection's crazy,” said Cody Defrate. “Cars turning the wrong way, people aren't paying attention when they cross the street.

“It's not just pedestrians. It's mostly the cars honestly,” he said.
