The San Diego County Sheriff's Department says a juvenile who allegedly stole his family vehicle led a patrol unit on a chase that ended with a crash into a gas station pump.
A department statement says the incident began early Tuesday morning in the Spring Valley area when a deputy attempted to stop the pickup truck for driving without lights on during darkness.
The driver sped away and attempted a turn but lost control. The pickup jumped a curb, went through a gas station parking lot and hit the gas pump, disabling the pickup and starting a fire.
The driver was taken into custody and booked into Juvenile Hall.
The crash caused $200,000 damage to the pump, according to a preliminary estimate.
