Firefighters are keeping a watchful eye in Pine Valley Tuesday during a 95-acre controlled burn.
The burn will take most of the day -- from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. -- according to a CalFire spokesman. Smoke from the fire is expected to be considerable, and residents from as far away as the San Diego city limits and from most of East County may be able to see the plume.
Officials said the goal of the controlled burn was to to reduce "fuel loading" in the area and to create a safe zone around the community.
