Train Strikes Truck Abandoned on Tracks in Vista

The crash happened near South Santa Fe Avenue and York Drive; no one was injured

A Sprinter train struck a red pickup truck abandoned on the tracks in Vista Sunday morning, authorities confirmed.

The collision happened around 4:40 a.m. near South Santa Fe Avenue and York Drive. Officials with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department (SDSO) said a train struck an empty truck that, for unknown reasons, had been left behind on the tracks

No one was injured, officials said.

The crash caused some traffic backup in the area and slight delays. A SigAlert was issued while authorities worked to clear the scene.

By 7:40 a.m., the North County Transit District said all Sprinter service was back on schedule.

The collision is under investigation. No further details were immediately released.
