South County Meeting Mash-Up

Several public meetings are being held across the South Bay this week. Here's a brief look at some noteworthy items on the agendas.

Sweetwater Union High School District

The Sweetwater Union High School District will meet in closed-session at 4 p.m. to discuss property negotiations. One Eastlake property being considered is at 2300 Boswell Road, and another property is between 2387-2389 Faivre Street in the southern portion of the city.

The district recently came under fire from community members concerned about a troubled real estate deal on L Street.

Reportable actions taken during closed-session must be disclosed to the public after the meeting.

At the public meeting that begins at 6 p.m., the board is scheduled to hear a presentation about civility concerns during the public meetings, receive the Prop O financial and Performance Audit, and consider restoring concessions made by its California School Employees Association.

The meetings will be held at the district's Administration Center at 1130 Fifth Avenue.

San Ysidro Community Planning Group

The San Ysidro Community Planning Group at 5:30 p.m. at the San Ysidro School District Education Center at 4350 Otay Mesa Road.

The group will hear updates on the San Ysidro port of entry expansion and consider approval of an annual report to be delivered to the San Diego City Council.

Chula Vista Police Staffing Public Meeting

Chula Vista Councilman Rudy Ramirez will host open office hours
to address concerns about police staffing levels.

According to a recent SANDAG study, Chula Vista's police department ranks last in the county in per capita funding relative to other cities.

Ramirez and Fred Rowbotham, president of the Chula Vista Police Officers Association, will speak to the public on this issue.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. on Monday in the conference room of the Chula Vista Public Library, Civic Center Branch, 365 F Street.

Chula Vista State of the City Address

Mayor Cheryl Cox will provide her seventh annual State of the City address on Tuesday at City Hall.

She plans to update the community on the Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan, the city budget, University Park and Research Center, and job creation, among other topics.

The address will begin at 6 p.m. at Chula Vista City Hall, Council Chambers, 276 Fourth Ave.

San Ysidro Intermodal Transportation Center Update

SANDAG will introduce an interactive design model and update the community on the port of entry expansion.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Willow Elementary at 226 Willow Rd in San Ysidro.

Southwestern Community College Board Meeting

Southwestern Community College will continue ongoing labor negotiations with its faculty union in closed session on Wednesday night.

The board announced last week it did not plan to lay-off employees in the midst of the concession talks.

The closed-session meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in Room 214 at Southwestern College at 900 Otay Lakes Road.

Reportable actions taken during closed-session must be disclosed to the public after the meeting.

The open-session portion of the meeting begins at 7 p.m.

San Ysidro School District Special Meeting

A tentatively scheduled special board meeting is in the works for the San Ysidro school district on Thursday night.

The board has asked to hear an update about an ongoing lawsuit between a solar panel company and the school district.

Chula Vista-based Manzana Energy is suing the South County school district, claiming his $18 million contract was terminated because he refused to provide bribes to school officials.
