A Sig Alert was issued for a portion of Imperial Avenue after a serious injury traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle.
San Diego police (SDPD) responded to the crash at 3:46 a.m. Sunday at the 6300 block of Imperial Avenue, between 63rd and 65th Streets, in San Diego's Encanto neighborhood. A Sig Alert was issued at 5:42 a.m. as investigators worked on scene.
The silver car involved in the crash was driving down Imperial Avenue and did not see the motorcyclist in front of them, according to passengers in the car, and thought they would swerve to avoid him.
The car and motorcycle collided, police said. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The driver of the car was arrested and another passenger was trapped inside, but okay.
The boyfriend of the passenger inside the silver car said his girlfriend called him early Sunday, telling him they had been in an accident.
"Both airbags had deployed, there was smoke, dirt everywhere, the windshield was shattered, she was pretty much dazed, didnβt know what was going on, and said the driver had gotten out to speak with people on the outside," he said.
No other information was immediately available.
