Woman Rescued in Tijuana River Valley

Rescue was in the Tijuana River Valley also known as "Smuggler's Canyon”

Emergency crews rescued a woman from a steep embankment along the U.S.-Mexico border Friday morning.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents patrolling the area heard a cry for help at 3:45 a.m.

They found the woman, 20 feet down the side of a hill, a few miles west of the port of entry, in the Tijuana River Valley also known as "Smuggler's Canyon.”

The terrain in the area is very rocky.

Alex Leon with San Diego Fire Rescue said the woman suffered bumps and bruises all over her body and a possible head injury.

Emergency crews took the woman to a nearby hospital. Agents say it’s not known why the woman was in the area in the first place.

Even though there are some isolated rain spots around the county this morning, there's no rain here, and authorities say the woman's fall was not caused by inclement weather.
