Man and Dog Killed in Scripps Ranch Crash

The deadly collision happened at Spring Canyon Road and Sunset Ridge Drive as the man and his dog walked across the street on Oct. 30, 2015

A 49-year-old man and his dog were killed in Scripps Ranch Friday night when a car hit them as they crossed the street on foot, San Diego police said.

According to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), the man and his dog were walking across an unmarked crosswalk around 9 p.m. at Spring Canyon Road and Sunset Ridge Drive when a driver struck them.

The man and his dog died from injuries suffered in the accident, police confirmed.

The driver, a 52-year-old woman, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The investigation is ongoing, but police do not believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the deadly crash.

In their search for witnesses, investigators said no one actually saw the collision, but rather witnessed more of the aftermath and called 911 to report the critically injured man in the street.

Further details, including the victim’s name, have not yet been released. Check back for updates.
