It’s been a dangerous week for San Diego police with three separate incidents resulting in injuries to responding officers.
An officer was punched during a scuffle with a suspect outside a convenience store at Florida and El Cajon Boulevard in University Heights.
The officer responded to the call of an argument between a clerk and a customer around 3:30 a.m. Monday.
One witness said when the officer arrived, the struggle with the suspect became so intense, the officer’s radio fell from his waist prompting an alert to other patrol cars in the area.
Even though the officer was punched in the struggle, he was not seriously injured.
Later that same day, a woman was arrested for battery on a peace officer after she punched the officer at the downtown trolley station at American Plaza and India Street.
It appears the officer and emergency personnel were trying to convince a man with a bleeding head injury to go to the hospital when the victim became violent Lt. David Rohowits said.

A woman who was with the victim began punching the officer. She had to be tackled to the ground and wrestled into handcuffs Rohowits said.
The man’s injuries were apparently caused by an earlier altercation in Old Town officials said.
Then, late Tuesday, an officer was attacked by a man along the side of the road in Mission Bay.
A father trying to drive his 21-year-old son to a mental health facility crashed the car after the son became violent.
An officer found the wrecked vehicle along southbound Interstate 5 at Clairemont Drive. Soon after, the son and the officer got into an altercation and rolled down the highway embankment.
The son was holding a knife at the time and sliced the officer’s thumb officials said. He also punched several medics police said.
Emergency crews were finally able to control the son and transport him to UCSD where he was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
