Santee Playground Based on Children's Drawings Unveiled

The play space is expected to serve more than 20,000 children over the next 15 years

More than 200 volunteers unveiled a playground they built in Santee Saturday.

The design of the playground, located in Town Center Community Park, was based on children’s drawings.

It is expected to serve more than 20,000 children and families over the next 15 years.

Volunteers from Foresters Financial, Santee Fire, Kaboom! and others joined in to help, assembling pieces, painting and mixing concrete to create this pillar for the Santee Community.

"I'm hoping that the kids out here, you know, get a chance to be kids again. There's some kids out there who are dealing with adult problems and it's really important for them to have that opportunity to be kids and learn and play and have fun,” Courtny Dolan, Kaboom! Project Manager told NBC 7.

In a practice of patience, the children will have to wait a short while for the paint to dry and the concrete to set before they can enjoy the playground.
