Murder Suspect Returned to San Diego

A man wanted for the murder of a 19-year-old woman in 2010 was returned San Diego today, according to officials.

Armando Perez is accused of killing his wife, Diana Gonzalez, on Oct. 12, 2010. Gonzalez was attending a class at San Diego City College when Perez allegedly accosted her and killed her inside a men’s restroom. Perez fled to Mexico shortly after.

The district attorney’s office secured a Provisional Arrest Warrant from the Mexican government, permitting Perez’ detention in Mexico for the purpose of extraditing him back to the United States.

In February, Perez was apprehended in Tijuana and sent to Mexico City where he was held up until Tuesday afternoon. He is currently booked into San Diego County jail and charged with one count of murder.

When Perez was arrested in February, Gonzalez's family said he "needs to be stuck in jail and never let out."

The murder prompted outcry from the family, who blamed the district attorney's office for not filing charges made by Gonzalez against Perez.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, August 22, at 1:30 p.m.
