Local Leaders React to Bin Laden's Death

Several local leaders are reacting to news of Osama bin Laden’s death.

Mayor Jerry Sanders released the following statement congratulating the Navy SEALs for their heroic accomplishment:

"I couldn't be prouder of the Navy SEALs for their incredible heroism in hunting down Osama Bin Laden. In San Diego, of course, the military is ingrained in the city's very identity. The servicemen and women with ties to the city have spent the past decade making utterly extraordinary sacrifices to win the war on terror. On behalf of all San Diegans, I offer my profound congratulations to the Navy SEALs for their historic accomplishment. I also congratulate all those service members and other professionals whose daily sacrifices help keep this nation safe."

Congressman Brian Bilbray released the following statement:

"The United States of America has achieved a great victory by killing Osama Bin Laden nearly a decade after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Former President Bush, President Obama, the men and women of the armed forces, and especially the United States special forces should be commended for their bravery and determination to seek justice no matter how long it takes."

San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said he had a great sense of satisfaction and relief.

“In no way will it bring back the lives that he's responsible for taking on September 11th… But knowing that he's met his just rewards is very satisfying.”
