A vegetation fire sparked in the riverbed in Mission Valley Thursday evening.
The fire was reported along North Hotel Circle just after 6 p.m. and the first San Diego Fire-Rescue crews arrived minutes later.
Firefighters had to cut through a chain link fence to gain access to the flames.
Smoke was visible from the nearby Interstate 8, but the flames did not spread.
No damage was reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
