Amid a red flag warning weekend that brought dangerous fire conditions to San Diego County, a brush fire sparked on a mountainside in Escondido late Sunday night, officials confirmed.
The blaze began just after 10 p.m. near Interstate 15 at El Norte Parkway, between West Iris Lane and Seven Oaks Road.
California Highway Patrol officials said the brush fire was reportedly burning a mountainside, with flames coming close to power lines and power poles at one point.
By 11 p.m., officials said firefighters were making good progress on the blaze.
Escondido Fire officials could not immediately release information on the size of the fire. Officials did say no structures were in danger, and no injuries were reported.
