Drunk Student's Accused Rapist In Custody

A 23-year-old Oceanside man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of raping an intoxicated Cal State San Marcos student at a campus residence last spring, the school's police chief told our media partner the North County Times.

Tyrone Henry Crawford Jr. turned himself in to campus police Wednesday afternoon after a warrant was issued for his arrest, Chief Ron Hackenberg told the paper.

The chief said the alleged rape took place April 18, 2008, at the campus' University Village Apartments.

Crawford has been charged with one count of raping an unconscious person and one count of raping an intoxicated person, said Paul Levikow, spokesman for the district attorney's office.

An arraignment was expected either Thursday or Friday, officials said.
