City Heights Arsonist Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison

A San Diego man who intentionally set multiple fires around City Heights last year will spend the next seven years behind bars, a judge ruled Friday.

Rolando Resendiz, 25, was sentenced on several arson charges stemming from a series of fires between March 2015 and April 2015.

Resendiz was found guilty of intentionally starting several fires in dumpsters, alleyways, trash cans and beds of pickup trucks. He also set fire to the porch of a home on Ogden Street. He was arrested in early April 2015 after police found him walking away from the scene of that porch fire.

Investigators also linked Resendiz to a fire on Wightman Street.

Last year, Resendiz pleaded not guilty to two counts of arson to an inhabited structure and three counts of arson to property. His mother maintained Resendiz’s innocence, saying her son was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
