Chula Vista police are searching for a suspect who attempted to carjack a driver and shot him near East Palomar Street and Monserate Avenue early Monday morning.
Officers arrived at the location just before 6:30 a.m.
According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the victim had pulled over to the side of the road to use his cell phone when a man approached him and demanded his jeep.
Then the man hit the victim on the head, shot him twice in the leg and took off without the jeep.
CVPD said the victim also left his jeep behind and began limping down the road, where he was later found by officers.
The victim, described as 31-years-old, was taken to UCSD Trauma Center for treatment. He is expected to be okay.
Earlier Monday, an officer was seen from Newschopper 7 using cameras to document a Jeep parked along the side of the road on Monserate Avenue.
Other officers used flashlights to look at the grass near the sidewalk.

The location is right around the corner from Castle Park High School, west of Interstate 805 and north of East Orange Avenue.
