Man Jumps in San Diego Bay to Avoid Arrest

A man ran into San Diego Bay to avoid arrest Friday, Chula Vista Police said.

Three people were inside a pickup truck police say they first noticed traveling near Broadway and Naples around 9:45 a.m.

Officers did not begin a pursuit but continued following the car because they believed it to be stolen.

The driver turned onto Industrial and ran into another car.

The driver jumped out, ran into the SDG&E power plant and then took a swim into the bay. He suffered several cuts during the escape attempt, police said.

A second passenger ran off and managed to allude capture.

A woman sitting in the center of the pickup was taken into custody.
