CHP Officer Hurt When Car Loses Control, Slams Into Patrol Car

A California Highway Patrol Officer was taken to the hospital Monday after his vehicle was struck by a car while responding to a crash on an Interstate 8 off-ramp, the agency said.

The CHP officer was sitting inside a patrol vehicle when a fast-driving sedan lost control on a curve in the road and struck the officer's car, CHP said.

The officer was providing traffic control at the scene of an accident on the off-ramp from eastbound I-8 to Mission Gorge Road when he was struck.

It was not clear what injuries the officer suffered as a result of the crash but medics took the officer to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment. CHP did not say if the officer had since been released.

The driver of the sedan complained of pain but refused treatment, CHP said.

CHP shut down the off-ramp to Mission Gorge Road for one hour as the crash was investigated.
