County Red-Tags Home Smashed by Car in Spring Valley

"We heard a loud boom, and some crashing and thought it was an earthquake,” said homeowner Marissa Bell

A homeowner found a car crashed into her bedroom 10 minutes after she got out of bed Monday morning.

The crash happened in Spring Valley at around 7 a.m. The driver lost control of the car and hit a utility box before going down an embankment and into the house, confirmed San Miguel Fire and Rescue.

Marissa Bell, the homeowner, was in her living room with her mother when they heard the loud crash.

“We heard a loud boom, and some crashing and thought it was an earthquake,” said Bell. “But when we didn’t see anything fall, that was when I looked in my room and saw the car in the middle of my bedroom.”

No one in the house was injured but the driver was transported to Mercy Hospital.

There was severe damage to the corner of the house and it was red-tagged by the county after they found gas and electrical lines running through the wall the car crashed into.

County Planning and Development Services said the lines could possibly have been damaged so energy gas services to the home were shut off. Bell and her mother will be allowed back into the home when the repairs are complete.
